Delaware held its general election on November 5, 2024, deciding 51 legislative seats and 3 statewide offices led by the governorship. No chamber changed party control.
Highlights
- New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer (D) beat House Minority Leader Mike Ramone (R) for the open governorship by about 12 points, extending a Democratic hold on the office that dates to 1992 and completing a Democratic sweep of the statewide ballot: Sen. Kyle Evans Gay (D) was elected lieutenant governor over former Rep. Ruth Briggs King (R) by 10 points, and Trinidad Navarro (D) won a third term as insurance commissioner by 17 points over Ralph Taylor (R).
- Democrats have held every statewide office since the 2018 election, and the party's own state chair told public radio station WHYY the GOP is now "the third party in this state." In the Legislature, Democrats kept their 15-6 Senate supermajority and picked up one House seat, 26-15 to 27-14, with Frank Burns (D) taking House District 21, the seat Ramone had held since 2008 and gave up to run for governor, by 16 points over Brenda Mennella (R).
- The closest legislative race was House District 20 in Sussex County, where Rep. Stell Parker Selby (D) held on by about 1.4 points. No incumbent lost. Across the 51 legislative races, 1 seat changed parties, 1 finished inside two points, and 27 drew a single candidate. Delaware had no statewide ballot measures.
