Highlights Republicans padded the veto-proof majorities they already held against Gov. The GOP's biggest gains came in Jefferson County, where it captured six of seven seats . McKenna , respectively. Elsewhere, Rep. Jeanie Riddle (R) beat Rep. Ed Schieffer (D) by about 35 points for the open Senate District 10 . Democrats' brightest spot was Senate District 24 , where Jill Schupp (D) narrowly won a hard-fought contest for a Republican-held seat. She beat Jay Ashcroft (R), son of former Gov. and U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, by about 3 points in one of the state's most expensive races. Auditor Tom Schweich (R) easily won a second term with no Democratic opponent. Republicans unseated three other House Democrats:Republicans picked up open Democratic seats in House Districts 41 , 113 , and 149 . After the election, Democrats held no seats in northeast Missouri . Deb Lavender (D) won Democrats' only House pickup, the open House District 90 , by about 440 votes. Rep. Bill Otto (D) held House District 70 by about 150 votes, and Nick King (R) held the open House District 17 by 72 votes, the closest legislative race. Voters approved 2 of 4 amendments. Amendment 10 limits the governor's ability to withhold money from the budget, and Amendment 2 allows propensity evidence in child sex-crime prosecutions. Voters rejected Amendment 6 , a six-day early voting period, and, by roughly three to one, Amendment 3 , a teacher-evaluation plan whose backers suspended their campaign in September.
