General Election, November 4, 2014
Ohio held its general election on November 4, 2014, deciding 116 legislative seats and 6 statewide offices led by the governorship. No chamber changed party control.
Highlights
- Republicans swept every statewide office and won a record number of Ohio House seats, keeping their trifecta and making it easier to place constitutional amendments before voters.
- Gov. John Kasich (R) beat Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald (D) by about 31 points, carrying 86 of 88 counties. In August, FitzGerald apologized after reports that he had gone years without a regular driver's license.
- The closest statewide contest was for treasurer, where Josh Mandel (R) won re-election over state Rep. Connie Pillich (D) by about 13 points.
- House Republicans finished with a 65-34 majority, and the Senate stayed at 23-10. All 5 House seats that changed hands went Republican, three of them at an incumbent's expense:On the Democratic side, Rep. Debbie Phillips (D) held House District 94 by about 390 votes. House Republicans then chose Rep. Cliff Rosenberger (R) as the next Speaker.
- On the May primary ballot, voters approved Issue 1, a constitutional amendment authorizing state bonds for local public infrastructure, by roughly two to one.

- House (99 seats): 39 D, 60 R before the election, 34 D, 65 R after; control stayed with Republicans.
