Oklahoma held its general election on November 8, 2022, deciding 125 legislative seats and 9 statewide offices led by the governorship. No chamber changed party control.
Highlights
- Republicans won every statewide office and kept their two-thirds majorities in both chambers, even as record outside spending targeted the governor.
- Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) beat outgoing state Superintendent Joy Hofmeister (D), a former Republican, by about 14 points. Outside groups spent more than $14 million against Stitt, yet he won by a wider margin than in 2018.
- The legislative balance barely moved. Sen. J.J. Dossett (D) was the only legislator of either party to lose in November, falling in SD-34 to Dana Prieto (R); he blamed straight-party voting. Democrats answered in Tulsa, where Suzanne Schreiber (D) flipped a Republican seat, HD-70, by beating Brad Banks (R).
- Down the ballot, Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell (R) won re-election by about 34 points, and Gentner Drummond (R) won the attorney general's office over Lynda Steele (L) by nearly 48 points. Republicans also won the open superintendent's office Hofmeister vacated, electing a political newcomer whom Stitt had named education secretary over an Oklahoma City teacher.
- In 87 of the legislative races, one major party fielded no candidate.
