Beaumont Covert

Senior Counsel

Beaumont Covert joined MultiState’s lobbying compliance team as Senior Counsel in 2021. Beaumont has decades of experience in the public affairs industry. She previously served as Assistant General Counsel for litigation at SCANA Corporation, a South Carolina based energy company where she provided legal counsel and representation to the company in several states on matters involving actual, threatened, or potential litigation primarily related to personal injury, property damage, contractual disputes, right-of-way disputes, customer complaints and other consumer issues, insurance, landlord-tenant disputes, and worker’s compensation. Beaumont also handled all bankruptcy cases including serving as chairwoman of the Unsecured Creditor’s Committee in Enron Corporation’s bankruptcy filing. She also managed all cases relating to labor, employment, and disability claims for more than a year while the company sought to find a permanent in-house employment counsel. Before going to work for SCANA, Beaumont worked in the Office of the General Counsel for the State of South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control where she provided legal advice to the Agency, drafted legislative bills, assisted in developing agency programs and regulations, and interpreted state and federal legislation. She also served as a member of the Agency’s legal team for the State’s first Certificate of Public Advantage (COPA) evaluation of a proposed hospital merger which became Palmetto Health System in 1998. Beaumont also has experience in private practice and the nonprofit sector. She has worked for several law firms in South Carolina and also worked for a nonprofit advocacy organization in Washington, DC, where she focused on education reform research and event planning. Beaumont holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of South Carolina. She is a member of the South Carolina Bar. Beaumont enjoys volunteering in her community of Chattanooga, Tennessee. She and her husband, Jabo, have two adult children and two labradors.
