Position Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Database Manager whose primary responsibility will be overseeing a comprehensive database of state and local vehicle-related fees for a client in the vehicle insurance industry. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the data, and you will work with internal MultiState teams and directly with the client. You will also oversee the daily work of the project team, who conduct monthly reviews of our fee data against external sources. You will be responsible for writing and maintaining database and process documentation, assisting the client lead in resolving any issues that arise, and working with the client lead to develop and implement new systems for checking and maintaining data accuracy and team efficiency. While this is a managerial role, everyone on the project team is expected to participate in the monthly data review and update data as required to ensure an ongoing and complete understanding of the project. Position location preference is a hybrid arrangement at our Arlington, VA office, but fully remote work is possible for the right candidate. 

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead a team of data associates and policy analysts, providing training and technical support to ensure accuracy and compliance with established standards during the monthly manual checking process. 

  • Implement and enforce data quality standards to maintain the integrity of the fee data. Continuously monitor and improve data quality processes.

  • Write and maintain database and process documentation, and ensure team is following all written processes.

  • Identify discrepancies, inconsistencies, and potential errors in the data and propose solutions to remedy.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise, communicating any such issues timely to the client lead.

  • Collaborate with other internal departments to ensure newly-entered data meets accuracy standards. Work closely with relevant team members to validate data accuracy and resolve discrepancies.

  • Work with client lead to develop and implement new database processes, including collaborating with in-house engineers to develop new features to improve team efficiency and general data accuracy. 

  • Lead any ad hoc research projects that arise related to the project.

  • Stay updated with the latest data quality and database management trends, technologies, and best practices to recommend and implement improvements.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Data or Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related analytical field (Master's degree is a plus).

  • Proven experience in data entry, data quality assurance, or similar roles, working with large and complex data sets.

  • Proven experience in database management, with a strong emphasis on maintaining data quality and integrity with data requiring extreme attention to detail.

  • Experience in creating process documentation and enforcing policy and procedures within a project team.

  • Familiarity with data validation and data audit techniques. 

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional internal and external teams. Experience working directly with clients and managing staff/project team is highly desirable. 

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills and exceptional attention to detail.

  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing and prioritizing tasks effectively.

  • Understanding of state and local legislative and regulatory processes desired.

  • Coding experience is a plus.
